We are in a significant time where God is planning and revealing amazing assignments.
What we need is a renewed sense of hearing! This month of Av, the 5th month of the Biblical time line, is full of revelation for us as we look with expectation to our future. I have a growing sense that God is removing the old to establish the new and He is about to turn situations around if we only have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. I believe the Holy Spirit has highlighted Psalm 30 for this month; it tells us that God is turning situations around. ‘You have turned my mourning into dancing’. The Lord is also releasing us into a new identity: ‘You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy’.
The 9th day of Av has great historical significance. Historians commonly refer to this day as being the time in BC423 when the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed; see 2 Kings 25 and Jeremiah 52. Then on the same date in AD70 the temple was again destroyed. However, our God has turned things around through the Lord Jesus Christ! In John 2 He said, ‘Destroy this temple and I will raise it up in 3 days’. Jesus was speaking about a new temple, the temple of His body. He released fresh revelation regarding the presence of God and displayed a whole new identity for us who believe. God is about to turn things around and bring change into our lives. He is turning endings into beginnings! He is turning destruction into restoration!
Another significant truth this month of Av, is shown us by the tribe of Simeon. If you look at Simeon’s life, there doesn’t seem much there that would attract the favour of God. In Genesis 49, he is both deceitful and revengeful. In Numbers 25 he led Israel into sexual immorality and idolatrous worship. He was also one of the 10 tribes that brought a bad report concerning the land of promise God was leading Israel into as an inheritance. In Deuteronomy 32 and 33 where Moses blesses the people, Simeon’s name is totally omitted. However, when we read Joshua 19:1 there is an amazing assignment that has been appointed for him and God turns the whole situation around. Simeon is clothed with a fresh identity and destiny. He is given a portion of land within the borders of Judah. God is about to turn our lives around in the places where we feel we have failed, where we seem to have lost the favour of God, where we have not possessed our portion, our inheritance, the blessing that we have not earned. God is turning situations around and He is turning you!
Simeon means ‘to hear’. Like Simeon, if we have ears to hear, we will hear the sound of praise that flows out of Judah. Judah means to speak forth. Listen to Joshua 19:1, ‘The second lot came out for the tribe of Simeon, clan by clan. Their inheritance lay within the territory of Judah.’ Verse 9 says, ‘The inheritance of Simeon was taken from the share of Judah, because Judah’s portion was more than they needed. So the Simeonites received their inheritance within the territory of Judah’.
I have a strong sense and I believe it is the Spirit of God, saying there will be new partnerships and relationships that we will enter into, releasing us into our portion and bringing us into the blessing and favour of God. This is a time when we need to hear what God is saying regarding people that He has appointed for us to meet. Allow Him to turn things around in our lives and we will receive the new identity that contains our new portion of blessing.
