Prophetic Mandate: August 2016

There is a time for every activity to take place in our lives. It never ceases to amaze me how God wants us to so order our lives according to His timing. It says in Psalm 139: “Every day ordained for me was written in the book before one of them came into being.” (This is the Biblical Month of Av)

This month of August corresponds to the tribe of Simeon. I believe there is much that God will pour into our hearts as we realign ourselves this month to fulfill all that God has ordained. The name Simeon means ‘one who hears’. I had a clear sense God is saying, “I am going to give you a new grace to hear and I am going to give a new opportunity for you to enter and to receive the full portion of what I intended as an inheritance for you.”

Genesis 34 will be a passage to meditate on in order that we may search our hearts and receive a new grace to enjoy and to live out our true identity.

In this passage, Simeon allowed the mistakes of others to shape his identity; he allowed a bitter root to become established in his heart. He devised a deceitful plan and then took revenge on those who had dishonoured his sister. He used his strength over others’ weaknesses in order to bring down and to destroy. Basically this was his payback time for the pain Shechem had caused his sister and the shame he had brought on their family. Are there any payback times in our lives where we have allowed pain to make us bitter and then made promises we knew were disguises to bring the person down who had hurt or shamed us?

This one experience changed his identity. In Genesis 49:5, it says of Simeon: “Simeon and Levi are brothers – their swords are weapons of violence. Let me not enter their council, let me not join their assembly, for they have killed men in their anger.”

It is easy to allow experiences we go through to shape who we are. I believe that this is a month when God is wanting to restore us to our true identity and also to restore our inheritance. Our inheritance may have been lost or it may have been broken – as in a broken marriage, broken ministry, broken relationships or lost employment.

But I hear the Lord saying “This is a new day, there is a new portion, there is a new purpose and I am the God who restores and who renews.”

When Moses came to bless the people in Deuteronomy 34, there is no mention of the tribe of Simeon receiving an allotted portion. His bitterness and revenge cancelled his name from the allocation of inheritances. But God will find a way to restore our inheritance, Hallelujah! He always gives us more grace to live out our true identity and to fulfill our destiny, throughout the days God has ordained for us.

Joshua 19:1-9 is the key passage for this month of August.
“The Inheritance for Simeon. The second lot came out for Simeon, for the tribe of the people of Simeon, according to their clans, and their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the people of Judah. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Simeon according to their clans.”

“The inheritance of the people of Simeon formed part of the territory of the people of Judah. Because the portion of the people of Judah was too large for them, the people of Simeon obtained an inheritance in the midst of their inheritance.”

God is going to re-apportion a place for us; He is going to restore those things that we lost through our hurts or negative responses; we are going to come into a new portion and a new day.

I believe that just as Simeon needed a Judah – one who had more than they needed in order to release Simeon into his blessing – so God is going to bring people into our lives and we are going to receive blessing that we didn’t expect, that we didn’t work for and that we thought would never come our way.

Let us ask God to tune our hearing so that when He speaks we are able to respond and to receive His grace and His restoration.
